Needs Consideration

Ed's observation:
Your talk Wed. (History) made we wonder again about ecstatic experiences. I believe they occur but are not all always for the good (thus from the divine?), witness Jones & Jonesville and so on. I have heard several folks who claim to have had them but I don’t know about their ability to be a reliable witness. Historical claimants often have something to gain from a following of believers.

I would be glad to share this matter with others in a small group discussion.

That is an interesting topic. In some recent reading I did the author indicated that when an individual undergoes an experience it really can't be adequately described to another person. It is an experience that really can't be related using the language we have not having had the experience, and not having a large enough vocabulary. I certainly can't confirm that one. Further, to try and do so introduces the ego to the situation and the related story becomes, as I understand it, somewhat corrupted. The experience will fade as time goes on and we return to the routine of daily living, as do all memories. The purpose in relating it also comes into doubt. As to good or evil, I think the experience is what it is, and how the individual relates to it will determine whether it a positive or negative experience and how that relates going forward. So far our discussion has been about experiences and the effort to reach those moments has been in a positive light. But as Jerry indicated last week, he will soon get to the 'shadow' part of it which is the hard work.
